The Daedeok Innopolis Singers (DIS) was founded in June 1985. The DIS members consist of scientists, engineers, professors and their spouses who are living in the Daedeok Innopolis, a part of the Metropolitan City of Daejeon, Korea. The Daedeok
Innopolis is the mecca of Korea's research in science and technology and is the new name for the Daedeok science park.
Starting the first annual concert in 1986, we have given more than 10 performances, including an annual one every year. Our awards from singing competitions include (1) gold prize in Chungnam-Provincial People Chorus Competition in 1988, (2) the first prize in Chungnam-Gangwon Provinces Chorus Competition in 1991, (3) silver prize from National Chorus Competition in memory of Seoul Olympics in 1991, (4) Silver medal from the 5th World Choir Games at Graz(Austria) in 2008. We performed overseas concerts in Gomats, Japan in 1991 by the invitation of Japan-Korea Goodwill Exchange Association and in Beijing, China in 1993 at the International Chorus Festival as well as in Manila, Philippines together with UP Madrigal in 1997. DIS was invited by the General Assemblies of WTA held in Hsinchu, Taiwan in 2010 and Gliwice, Poland in 2012 and favorably received by the audiences in the opening and the closing ceremonies of both General Assemblies.
We have performed a various genre of songs, including classical songs, opera chorus songs, madrigal, folk music, missa solemnis, and pop songs at home and abroad. Our voices are reputed to be sweet, soft and rich. We have been invited to many activities and festivals organized by the Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning as a unique science chorus in the country.
